Why I loved rebranding Search + Gather

I picked some really fun colours.

I had a lot of creative control over the project.

It actually helped grow the business.

I got to touch every aspect of the brand.

Finding a New Brand Identity

Search + Gather is a digital marketing startup that works with a variety of companies – from brand-new startups to well-established corporations. In the years since being founded, the company started taking on prestigious clients like Ecobee, RBC, and Indigo. They needed a new brand that would reflect their reputation as a trustworthy marketing agency, and a website that would show off their proven results, while encouraging visitors to get in touch to start transforming their own digital marketing. This served as a the challenge that I solved with this rebrand and web design.

Before the rebrand, the site was using stock imagery and a serif font with an ampersand as the logo. I chose much more bold fonts and bright colours to stand out and create a more distinct look. I also included images of phones with abstract representations of social media ads to use throughout the site.

The Challenge

Search + Gather outgrew their original website and branding as they started taking on bigger name clients and producing results that weren’t being showcased. The company needed to earn the trust of prospective clients visiting the website, to continue the momentum and growth that they had earned over time. Finally, the branding needed a visual overhaul to effectively express the confidence that it had earned since its inception.

How do you express the visual identity of a growing company, while showcasing the work they’ve done in a meaningful way?

The new logo features a central + symbol to represent what S+G can do for their clients: get them more of whatever they need.

The redesigned website features colourful phone images to represent social media ad placements, as well as new case studies.

Business cards and stickers were some of my favourites to design! It was awesome seeing a physical manifestation of the new brand.

My Approach

I was hired as Search + Gather’s first designer in late 2019, and I was given the task of overhauling the company’s branding. I loved being given such a high level of creative control over the project, and enjoyed the challenge of designing a brand identity that worked in a variety of applications.

In order to create an effective brand system that accurately represented the confidence of the agency, it was necessary to have regular meetings with the team to ensure that everyone felt represented by the new design. From these meetings, I was able to design the new logo. I came up with a central + symbol, which represents what S+G brings to the table as an agency – more of anything their clients are looking for. Whether it be more leads, sales, clients, or page views, S+G had proven that they can achieve results, and this new logo reflects that.

In addition to the logo, I selected new colours and fonts, and created a brand guide that I used to design the company’s website, social media ads, and merch. The result is a bolder, fun look and feel that confidently presents Search + Gather’s services, and reinforces trust in the company to help acquire new clients. The new website and branding has played a crucial part in the growth of the company since it launched in early 2020.
